Art and Design

Status:Active, open to new members
Group leader:
When: Monthly on Tuesday mornings 11:30
Third Tuesday
Venue: Pen Y Pound Club House

Our objective is to enjoy an eclectic range of Art/Design topics using informal discussion and colourful PowerPoint presentations where possible. This is neither a formal History of Art nor practical Art group.

Indeed, this is a very long-established u3a  "Art Appreciation" group. Occasional Design topics have varied between exquisite fabrics and the building of mighty Cathedrals. Thus, we can enjoy both colour and form!

Previous Art presentations have included: The Newlyn School, Turner, Botticelli, Augustus/Gwen John, Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, Lowry, Michelangelo, Vermeer, The Art of Persia, Pre-Raphaelites, etc - just to mention a few.

The ongoing observation, enthusiasm and contribution of members is critical to the group and is much appreciated.   New members, ideas, speakers and contributors are always welcome.

Forthcoming Art/Design projects are as follows...

At 11:30 on Tuesday 19th May, Caroline Lewis will lead a compelling search for the very beginnings of Art & Design as follows:-

"WHEN DID ART BEGIN? EXPLORING EARLY FORMS OF ART AND CRAFT"

At 11:30 on Tuesday 16th June, Ken Farnol would like to show an updated version of a previous presentation as follows:-

"101 GREAT ARTISTS (PART I) - THE RENAISSANCE, 1400 TO 1600"

This could perhaps be followed by PARTS 2, 3 & 4 at regular intervals in due course?
